ThistleTitles BookMark -tutorial

Recently I was back in business with Thistles. It is my own design and free chart is available. Here it is what I made with the ThistleTitles ChartPart. It is a very easy BookMark.

Yesterday I showed you how to do easy HotWaterBottleCover with low cost. This is the same idea. Wishing You Very Merry Christmas and blowing financial worries a bit further. Of course you don't need to use my Thistle chart to make this true. You can use any chart you wish and follow this idea.

This bookmark is cheaper to make than the previous ThistleBookMark because with this I don't use PerforatedPaper. Here I use normal Aida 14 Ct, rubber band, buckram and just a piece of left over fabric. IF you don't have buckram it is cheap to buy. But instead of it you can also use extra layer of spare fabric (rather white so that it can not be seen through).

But first: stitch the desired picture. Place it over the buckram and background fabric and cut off them to similar size.

If your buckram has glue, fasten it by ironing to both fabrics' backside (Aida and background fabric). Otherwise just iron them all.

Fasten the rubber band by few stitches to the top center part of the cross stitch picture's upper edge. The right length is a bit shorter than the height of a book.

Then pin them all together and sew them together around the cross stitch picture. Then just cut off to the right size. Watch out not to cut the rubber band!!!

To prevent the edges to fray use Decoupage lack or just normal glue. I spread it around by a small paint brush. Be sure the lack or glue you use can be washed away by the water so it will be easy to clean the brush and the mess later on. After painting the edges hang it to dry.

When it is finished you put the cross stitched part between the pages...

...and stretch the rubber band around the book. In this way the book stays closed so the book mark won't drop out.

Easy, simple and fabulous idea for book lovers!

HotWaterBottleCover -tutorial

Season of gifts is arriving more close. Christmas will be soon there. We all want it happy and joyful. Materia doesn't matter, we all know that. But we also know that sometimes you really would like to give a physical gift to someone special but you need to follow a strict budget and can not afford all you'd like to buy... or make.

This HotWaterBottleCover is easy and very low budget gift to make. Even beginners can do it. Besides, this is up to recycling so also nature lovers enjoy making this true and the person who will have it for sure can value it that not much nature resources were wasted when making this special gift.

First of all you need an old woollen pullover or vest. Then you need to felt it in the washing machine. How? Just put it in a proper long hot wash with the program you'd wash dirty linen. If there are holes or other damages in the material fix them by patching the wool before felting.

Just think about how wonderful idea this is. You can use passed away person's pullover to bring him close to loved ones to cuddle in cold winter season. You can use which ever important but now useless piece of cloth to bring it back to life. Or you can buy it with few coins from a charity shop or recycling center's shop to support their values.

You need to have a pattern of the HotWaterBottle for which you are making the cover. If you don't have the change to sneak in and draw the pattern when your friend is in the Lady'sRoom use some help. This one is for a special person of course. I asked HerFiance to draw it when She is not around. It is easy. Just put the bottle on the paper. Free advertisement mail does just fine. And draw the outline figure of the bottle. That's it. A child can do it!

Then you cut just 2 cm extra around the pattern to make sure the bottle fits in with the filled water after sewing.

Sew the side edges. If you have felt the pullover the edges won't fray easy so normal sewing machine does just fine. If you want you can secure it by zigzag.

Neaten the mouth by bias tape and use velcro (or buttons, ribbons or zippers) to fasten the bottom. In that way the bottle is easy to put in, make to stay in and fill in.

To get some BiasTape there is tutorial for it, if you don't happen to have any left. In this project you need just a little bit so you can do it without the Bias Tape Maker Set which I use in the tutorial. Just cut it, don't iron it and just sew it first from the back side, then at the front side.

I used seaming machine but secured the angle arch places by the sewing machine.

To neaten the seaming machine loose end threads I pull them through the seam by the big eyed tapestry needle and then cut the end off. In this way the seam end doesn't fray easily. The normal sewing machine loose end threads I just cut off.

Ta-dah! Here it is! Sewing doesn't take much time. After felting and drying it, it is just one or two hours job. You can create a beautiful memory in an afternoon moment and still have time to cuddle in with a book and cup of tea!

So, I've been stitching something warm. It is my own design Pull It On and there's free chart available for it.

Frost is back

Yesterday morning when I went to feed MyAngoraRabbits I felt the wind had changed its direction to opposite. It blew straight from Siberia. I knew there was no change for the return anymore. TheCat knew it too. All the day She wanted only to cuddle up with someone and even accepted TheDog to lick up HerRoyalFace. Today morning we woke up in the frost world. Waxwings are happy because it makes RowanTreeBerries taste better and despite they arrived over a week ago they started the proper celebration in MyGarden today morning.

SimpleNeedleCase

I have designed and finished a simple knitting needle / hook case. I crocheted it by using 100% cotton wool (Mandarin Classic yarn by SandnesGarn) (50g = 110m).

It is designed to be very simple, flat and thin to be able to stored with minimum space and attention. It is actually made by love for a very special friend of mine.

Nostalgic Ink

Do you remember those pretty blue ink stamp figures on your school books when you succeed in task and the teacher was happy with you? Some teachers still use them. I did that too this year for my Christmas season letters. I really could not help myself!

Correspondence -penpalling as you may know it- has been my hobby f0r over 30 years. I have always decorated  my own writing papers. At 80's there still was available pretty paper for the letters at the shops. Today the changes to find one are few; meaning up here in the North. Despite we have much more shops today than back on 80's. I guess it is because writing letters seems to be disappearing folklore but it is a wonderful way to keep touch with your friends and family.

On January 2015 I did some HomeMade writing paper and decided to start to share also it with you. Also on November 2016 I did some. Of course I've done much between and after too so unfortunately everything doesn't end up here on MyBlog. But sometimes I remember to take a pic before writing and sending them away. This time I used A5 size old squared note book pads which pages have already started to turn out a bit yellow. It all looks so nostalgic. I love to use my stash for crafts.

All Reused

I designed and made a birthday card. It is all up to recycled materials. The cardboard is from some package. It was just the right size so I just fold it carefully. Then I wrinkled the old wrapping paper, smoothed it out by a ruler and used two sided adhesive sheet to make it more flat and fasten it to the cardboard to create the shiny background. The Egyptian figure is cut off from a chocolate box! I fastened it by sticky fixer strip (3D adhesive foam pad) to get a bit 3D effect.
