So disappointed

On the begin of January  I started Jo Baker's Longbourn. I have finished it now and after a very long time I crashed at a huge disappointment with a book. Just do not waste your time with this.

On the begin it was very entertaining and connected with the title but then it escaped far too disconnected. Well, it was still connected but it just escaped and travelled too far. If you want to know about history then it may be ok.

But when you pick up a book praised and promised to tell about the life at The Bennets' house known by Jane Austen's  Pride and Prejudice you expect a tasteful amount of a side story, despite it is individual and of course can not copy Austen. You expect charming language and intelligence, Especially when the novel is praised to be genius. But then you find yourself being slapped against your face by rude words popping out there you don't expect. Don't get me wrong, I do can read rude language and unfortunately even speak myself too. BUT it was very irritating to be slapped by them at my face like this while reading neat and nice sentences.

Because of the start I recommended this to YoungLady who likes Jane Austen. She started it before I had changed my opinion about this. And I am happy she had sense to stop it and drop out because she experienced it dull and not enough close to the original story of the house. Opposite to Austen, at least this Jo Baker's book is not appropriate for YoungLadys at their teens where they are vulnerable and sensitive.

Peijaiset

Peijaiset is a Finnish word which has no literal translation to English. It is a traditional celebration that follows successful hunting season with the meaning to honor the game and make it return back to the hunting area via transmigration. In this fest hunters propitiate the game because of the death of its body so that it wants to transmigrate again into the woods.

Peijaiset are arranged for bears and moose once in a year nowadays. Before bear was worshiped and feared animal. It was king of the woods and that's why hunters arranged fest for it after every successful hunting.

This time our HuntingClub arranged peijaiset on 22nd of January. We used new catering service Satun Lounaskahvila (Satu's LunchCafe) and everyone was very pleased. Satu hunts herself too and she actually has shot the moose which trophy she ingeniously had placed to decorate the serving table. As you know I really appreciate this kind of artistic touch connected to the tradition! It was believed that the spirit of the animal lived in the skull and usually it was part of the fest food table and after the fest the skull was hanged up to be seen.

They had found even these beautiful matching moose printed paper serviettes. In Finland you can buy them at least at Eräkontti which is connected to Finland's national hunting association. But I am sure you can get them elsewhere too.

Knitting For Me

We have had some cozy lazy days with new adventures and interests.

We have also just been sitting (sleeping) and knitting my own design cardigan for Me&MySelf. We use AAW to get it all done especially for me. :) It is the project we started actually already in the middle of June but we had to put it aside because of other more important Xmas projects. We are getting along wery well and fast. TheDirector is satisfied and I am amused how patient TheDirector is with the case.

FurHood -tutorial

I definitely am against fur farming in the meaning clothing and beauty business produces fur. (I even am against wool business because of animal rights at some points & areas where the faults do exist.) But I do accept and use wild fur which means the hunter catch wild game. The cold fact just is in my environment & climate that real natural materials are needed if you are living life style I am; going out a lot.

Oil drilling is a problem in clothing business when producing so popular faux fur. If we talk only about oil drilling it doesn't harm animals straight away or immediately during the action; always & often. But oil drilling causes many damages to the nature and the animals live in the nature; not to mention about the catastrophes transporting oil can cause when facing an accident.

But it is your choice and up to many cases. Is there wild fur available? Can you afford it? What ever you choose the point is to recycle. That is why I made this tutorial.

Here I use so called "silver fox" fur. It is just a shade of normal red fox (Vulpes vulpes). I got 3 skins 22 years ago. I still have 2 untouched and 1 partly used. These silver foxes are from fur farming and left over skins. But fur is everlasting if you keep it right.

You can take a look how to cut fur if you don't have recycled one for a hood. If you have recycled one, remove it carefully from the old hood by unpicking the seam.

When YoungLady was just a TinyToddler I placed this to the hood of her winter outdoor overall. The overall has been gone for ages but the fur has been stored. You need approximately as long piece of fur as the edge of the hood is. The good width is just 4 - 6cm: it depends on the length of the hair.

Here I have used cotton ribbon to make transferring the fur from a coat to another easier. First sew the ribbon to one edge and then to the other.

Then sew the fur from the cotton ribbon to hood edge; from the middle to the both sides (from top of the head to left and right, you need to measure the central points)

At first it seems to be all visible.

But when you shake and gently groom it a bit the seam hides away.

This is actually MrW's old outdoor jacket for snow boarding. He overgrew from it and I got it. Only fault with this old recycled jacket has been that I don't grow hair at face (yet) like MrW so I needed to do something about it.

Who designed and what

So, Christmas is stepping behind, Christmas tree has taken down and each corner of my library is available again. With my Christmas greetings I promised to be back. I updated the page you can find out Maria Diaz designed this beautiful picture of Mary and Jesus.

I also found out I have something else Maria Diaz designed. It is that beautiful swan themed decoration. :)

What comes to MyReadingChallenge2017 I have already started. I finished Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K.Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Throne. It was very interesting to read a play. At first it disturbed but then I got used to it. I have tried to read few plays before but succeed only with this one and am proud of myself because this was not just a short school play where I need to take a part! :)

I also finished Vanishing World by Mireille de la Lez and Fredrik Granath. It has fabulous pictures about vanishing arctic nature and a bit info. Big book size doesn't show the photos on their best but definitely still it is worth of watching and reading. These pictures you desire to see at 1:1 size!

And I have started Jo Baker's entertaining novel Longbourn.
